MANILA, Philippines–Javee Mocon played his first game back from bone spurs procedure on Friday night and the results were quite convincing. Both for the team and ourselves.
The Phoenix guard scored 13 points in a 125-100 loss to Terrafirma at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Cubao, hardly looking like the man he’s been missing for months.
“I feel lucky because Terrafirma will play again and again. He (Dyip) is tired,” he told reporters as he left the Big Dome.
“I’m just happy that I can come back. It’s been a long time. I haven’t trained for two months. Only this week – the fourth time in total – I had to train. I just thank God that I’m not rusty either,” he said.
Mocon also added two rebounds and four assists to his name in a game that he hopes to sustain as Phoenix sustains five more playdates in its bid to turn the conference around.
“I think nutrition is a big factor because I’m not walking. A lot of rehab, and not doing anything because my knee is swollen,” said the 27-year-old guard.
Mocon insists he is far from tip-top form. He’s only 80 percent, still in pain.
But he hopes his friend’s blueprint for recovery will pay off.
“A big role model for me during the injury was (Robert) Bolick. When he came back from injury, he was fit and ready to play right away,” said the NorthPort guard, who played with him and won three straight titles at San Beda.
Phoenix and Mocon take Converge next.
