ILOILO CITY – Count James Yap among those who are no longer surprised by the height of Scottie Thompson’s career.
“It took a lot for him to be ‘Scottie Thompson,'” Yap, a former Philippine Basketball Association Most Valuable Player, told the Inquirer. “He’s been through a lot to get to this point.”
“It’s a lot of fun to play. We can see in the rebounds alone. And he’s a smart player too. More importantly, he is with Ginebra. So it’s no surprise that he quickly made a name (for himself).
Yap also thinks that he should play under the decorated coach as well as give the 29-year-old playmaker.
“You’re on Team Cone, too,” the 17-time All-Star said. “Tim’s coach has been tested (in time). And if you play for him, you will do well. Follow him and his system.
Yap won seven PBA crowns playing for Cone. Included in that tally is a Triple Crown sweep won in 2014, and two league MVPs.
Meanwhile, Thompson already has a title to his name. And the current MVP is only 29.
Yap said Sunday’s main event, which is the closing of the PBA celebration caravan in Passi City, Thompson has the chance to double down on the status of king in Asia pioneer pr league.
“This collection of stars? Scottie is the face of it. That’s why we’re called Team Scottie,” he said.
