TNT import Jalen Hudson takes on Converge import Jamaal Franklin in the PBA Governors Cup. – PBA PICTURES
MANILA, Philippines—.Jalen Hudson got the better of Jamaal Franklin in the import battle as TNT posted a streak-busting win over Converge in the PBA Governor’s Cup at the Araneta Coliseum on Wednesday.
Hudson and Franklin went in the whole game, respectively 56 and 47 points. Import Tropang Giga came out on top at the buzzer but made sure to give the big man FiberXers flowers.
“I think he’s a player. He makes some really tough shots. I know why he’s going to be in the CBA. For a while, I don’t think he’s going to slow down,” Franklin’s Hudson said after the 128-122 win that ended Converge’s unbeaten run.
“I thought we had a really good match and I thought we played well,” he said.
Hudson and Franklin traded baskets in several sequences of the game, but the former had the more efficient shooting night.
Hudson, a Virginia Tech alum, sank 21 of 31 attempts for a waxing hot 67 percent shooting clip. He also finished with a double-double with 12 rebounds and four assists.
His counterpart, a former Memphis Grizzlies player, made 47 markers at a 51 percent clip, making 15 of 29 attempts.
Hudson also did not leave the unsung hero of TNT unrecognized, saying this game was “one of the best” outings they have had since the beginning of the season.
“I think everybody played well, I’ve told people in the last few games that we haven’t played well, but tonight was one of the best times for all of us,” he said.
Coach Jojo Lastimosa made sure to give the import much-needed credit after playing more than 41 minutes, saying he was almost unstoppable in defense.
“I know what he can do. He’s as fast as anybody on the team and he’s athletic. There’s no seven-footer in the league that can stop him.
Wednesday’s outing was the highest scoring output for Hudson, who averaged 27.8 markers, 9.5 boards and 4.8 dimes per night.
