MANILA, Philippines – It will take at least three more weeks until Japeth Aguilar is back for good.
Aguilar showed the development on Sunday night after being reduced to a spectator due to a knee injury during the Gin Kings’ 118-88 loss to Magnolia in the PBA Governor’s Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“About three weeks,” he said with a long face and a somber tone during a conversation with reporters when asked about his return schedule.
“I just stayed on [doctors’] protocol, to heal first before I can start therapy,” he said.
Aguilar wore a knee immobilizer under sweatpants and walked cautiously throughout the game.
The two-time World Cup veteran suffered an injury during Ginebra’s matchup with NLEX last Wednesday.
The knee problem will not only sideline the high-flying Gin Kings to meet 5-1 San Miguel Beer later this week but could also scratch someone from the Philippines’ roster for the Fiba qualifiers against Lebanon and Jordan from February 24.
“I just have to be patient,” Aguilar said with a laugh. “I didn’t think God willed it. We’ll see.”
