MANILA, Philippines–Barangay Ginebra continued to look sharp on Friday night, defeating NorthPort, 115-100, to stay perfect in the PBA Governor’s Cup on Saturday at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
Spurred by a sluggish first half, the Gin Kings stepped up in the second half to add to their third straight conference win where they are the defending champions.
“We’re just looking for a chance to win the early game. Obviously we’ll be tired so the win we’re doing now is important,” said coach Tim Cone, whose responsibility has won the second game in a busy 12-game schedule.
Jamie Malonzo starred with a career-best 28 points to go with 10 rebounds, four assists, and four blocks. Resident import Justin Brownlee scored 22 while Jeremiah Gray continued to play well with another 16 as the Gin Kings remained steady even without Christian Standhardinger and Japeth Aguilar who were both injured.
