MANILA, Philippines – Coach Tim Cone lamented Barangay Ginebra’s offensive woes that led to missed opportunities in the dying seconds of Wednesday’s 87-84 loss to the Bay Area Dragons at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

“We had a chance at the end of the game to press, but we just didn’t knock down our open shots,” said Cone after Kings Gin couldn’t get the job done in the first chance to win the championship.

Gin Kings came back from a 12-point deficit in the third quarter and led by seven in the fourth quarter behind Justin Brownlee and Christian Standhardinger, only to struggle to take effect during the Dragons’ rally.

Ginebra also left empty-handed in its final four possessions, and Bay Area silenced the majority of its 22,000 fans to send the series to a decisive Game 7 on Sunday at the Philippine Arena in Bocaue, Bulacan.

Japeth Aguilar’s forced three on the last play of the game ended an anemic attack for the Gin Kings.

Brownlee poured in 37 points in a performance that might have been worthy of a series-clinching title—if the Best Imports had gotten the offensive support.

Standhardinger had 12 points after making a key basket early in the fourth that put Ginebra ahead 73-66.

But Scottie Thompson and Stanley Pringle, the last three to close Game 5 win on Wednesday, each went 3-of-9 for eight points, LA Tenorio went scoreless after muffling all five shots and Jamie Malonzo could only score four for Ginebra.
