MANILA, Philippines—Though unlike the other imports in the PBA Governor’s Cup, Ethan Rusbatch is just the import Converge needs, according to coach Aldin Ayo.

The FiberXers defeated NorthPort Batang Pier, 122-92, on Sunday despite Rusbatch scoring only 17 points and nine rebounds.

However, Rusbatch did more than just help Converge claim a convincing win.

“He’s a good fit for us because he’s the kind of import we need, the kind that complements our local players,” Ayo said of Rusbatch in Filipino at the PhilSports Arena.

“We don’t want an import that can score 50 or 60 games because it’s predictable. We want the ball to roll,” he said.

Converge guard Maverick Ahanmisi, who led the team with 29 points and six rebounds and nine assists, also praised Rusbatch, the Kiwi forward who is a former national team player.

“He’s good about the four. We’re a run-and-gun team, we like to shoot threes, so he helps stretch the floor. I give him credit for helping seal and give me space to attack the basket,” Ahanmisi said.
