MANILA, Philippines – Bay Area’s Myles Powell and Hayden Blankley were heavily fined Thursday for comments directed at the officiating after their team’s 89-82 loss to Barangay Ginebra in Game 3 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals.

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial said Powell was fined P100,000 while Blankley was asked to pay P75,000 for his remarks on social media when the Dragons fell 2-1 in the best-of-seven championship series the day before at the Mall of Asia. Arena.

The two players were summoned by Marcial at the PBA office in Libis, Quezon City to explain their side.

Marcial also clarified that he didn’t call Dragons coach Brian Goorjian, who spent most of Game 3 arguing with officials but opted to comment when asked by reporters.

Frustration was evident on the Dragons’ side after they blew a seven-point lead with four minutes left in the fourth quarter, prompting Powell to call free throws the difference in the game.

Blankley, on the other hand, made a since-deleted Instagram story that she concluded by saying “it’s cooked.”

There is no IMPORT switch

Meanwhile, the Bay Area will stick with Andrew Nicholson as an import for Friday’s crucial Game 4 at the same venue that is now a must-win for the visiting team from Hong Kong.

Deputy commissioner Eric Castro said the Dragons had no intention of making the switch before the 12 noon deadline after Nicholson hurt his left ankle late in Game 3.

Dragons team manager Maya Montecillo also confirmed the non-move. Inquiries about the severity of Nicholson’s injury were not returned by Bay Area officials when posted.

Bay Area is allowed to bring Powell back under arrangements made with the league for guest participation in midseason conferences.
