MANILA, Philippines – Pauline Gaston has a bitter taste as she gives hope to Chery Tiggo’s bleak semifinal chances as they eliminate her former team, Choco Mucho, from the race in the 2023 All-Filipino Premier Volleyball League Conference on Thursday at the Philsports Arena.

Gaston, who decided to sign with the Crossovers after two seasons with the Flying Titans, haunted his former team with a stellar performance of 12 points, 19 digs, and 14 receptions.

The outside midfielder admitted he had missed out on the previous squad but remained calm as he faced them to end Chery Tiggo’s three-game skid.

“When I see him, I miss him a lot. It’s still complete, I’m the only one who left. But I’m just trying to adjust my emotions and play professionally. I guess it’s an advantage for me because I know the tendencies. I think I can contribute a lot in this game because it’s a former team,” said Gaston in Filipino after the 25-21, 25-19, 25-19 victory over Choco Mucho.

After Choco Mucho missed the conference semifinals for the third straight time, Gaston still credits him to the Flying Titans.

“I respect him and I think he played well. It’s bitter-sweet [feeling],” he said.

Gaston, a former Ateneo captain, attributed the good game to her teammates, especially Mylene Paat, who led the way with 25 points.

“I really have to thank my teammates and my coach because they gave me a chance and I believe. And I’ve been working hard because Mylene Paat inspired us,” said Gaston in Filipino. “And everyone in the team did a lot efforts like EJ Laure, Shaya Adorador, and the midfielders. I can use the character they have because we keep pushing each other to reach the top. I think it’s a collaborative effort.

“For me, I’m always ready and I trust the coach, I trust my teammates no matter if my number is called or not,” he added.

Chery Tiggo, who hold a 4-3 record, must win their last elimination game against Petro Gazz (5-2) and hope to keep current No.4 PLDT (4-2) from losing their last two games to enter the semis.
