Push through the pain! Patrick Mahomes helped the Kansas City Chiefs win against the Philadelphia Eagles during the Super Bowl after sustaining an injury on the field.
During the first half of the game, the quarterback, 27, was taken down by the Eagles’ TJ Edwards. He limped off the field and his ankle was checked on the sidelines. Mahomes eventually escaped and returned in the second half to help his team win on Friday, February 12.
Prior to that feat, the athlete suffered a high ankle injury while playing in the Chiefs’ divisional playoff game against the Jacksonville Jaguars in January.
“He’s the MVP. That’s all there is to say. MVP. And you saw it tonight,” Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told reporters shortly after the monumental victory.
Mahomes’ victory came after he also made history with the Eagles. Jalen is sick – with Super Bowl LVII being the first to have two Black quarterbacks.
“This is historic,” the Texas native told reporters earlier this month. “A lot of guys laid the groundwork before us, and playing with guys like Jalen, who I know did the right thing, it’s going to be a special moment that I hope will live on forever.”
The 24-year-old Eagles quarterback added: “I think about all the rich history of this game, and to be a part of a historic event, a historic moment, it’s special.”
After the big win, Mahomes received love from his wife, Brittany Matthews. “THIS IS MY BOY!!!!!” personal trainer, 27, who shares daughter Sterling, 23 months, and son Bronze, 2 months, with his wife tweeted on Friday. His kids cheered on their dad, too β with Sterling all dressed up to support Mahomes.
The couple first met in high school and got engaged after eight years of dating.
“On a day that was meant to celebrate you, you turned it into celebrating us. It’s always us, it’s always you and me,” Matthews wrote via Instagram at the time. “The words that you look into my eyes and say now, will never go away! You made this day perfect, you took all my breath and I can’t imagine anything better. I love you, forever! Congratulations on spending your life together and an unbreakable bondππ₯π.”

“To my wife, Brittany, my baby girl, Sterling, and my son, Bronze, this crazy life means nothing without y’all keeping me balanced and making me appreciate each day,” he said earlier this month. “No matter how it feels to be home, you always make me happy and make me cherish the time I spend with you. Thank you for always being there for me in good times and bad. Love you all.”
