Passengers stranded at Lagos airport as NAHCO workers embark on strike

Hundreds of air passengers have disrupted their travel plans at the international and local wings of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos on Monday as staff from Nigerian Aviation Handling Company Plc (NAHCO) started a strike over salary increase.

NAHCO workers were called out of the international airport on Monday morning, which led to the cancellation and delay of several flights scheduled for the day, according to passengers affected by the development.

“They are still on strike as we speak. You have to see how airlines are canceling and rescheduling passenger flights at the airport,” a ticket official who declined to be named told PREMIUM TIMES Monday afternoon.

PREMIUM TIMES also gathered that the development has thrown up some arrival and departure flight schedules as passengers complained that there was no prior communication informing them of the development.

In a video seen by PREMIUM TIMES on Monday, the stranded passengers moved at the international airport with their luggage. Others seem to be complaining about the adverse effects of development on the itinerary.

In an update to passengers by the private air carrier, Air Peace, the airline said “…due to the industrial strike by all ground handling staff, the Nigerian Air Handling Company, NAHCO, against the Management, flights on our network will be disrupted today. “

The airline noted that the attack affected the operations of all airlines handled by the company (NAHCO).

“While we are monitoring the situation and hope to return to normal, we regret the disruption to your travel plans and ask for your understanding. Thank you for choosing Air Peace and we will continue to update you on developments,” said Airpeace.
