Panel names 18 from SEC to Softball POY Watch List

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (January 25, 2023) – The Southeastern Conference leads all athletic conferences with 18 student-athletes named to the Top 50 Watch List for the 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year.

The USA Collegiate Softball Player of the Year Award, entering its 21st season, recognizes outstanding athletic achievements by Division I collegiate softball players across the country. Previous recipients of Collegiate Softball Player of the Year awards from SEC member institutions are Monica Abbott (Tennessee, 2007), Lauren Haeger (Florida, 2015) and Kelly Barnhill (Florida, 2017).

The Top 25 Finalists for the 2023 Collegiate Softball USA Player of the Year Award will be announced on Wednesday, April 19. While athletes do not have to be on the “Watch List” to be considered for the Top 25, USA Softball is final. The Collegiate Player of the Year will come from the Top 25 Finalists. The Top 10 Finalists will be revealed on Wednesday, May 3 and the Top 3 on Wednesday, May 17. The 2023 USA Softball Collegiate Player of the Year will be announced prior to the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
