• The election is flawed but the best, says the king
The Osun State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has warned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) against uploading fake National Assembly election results on its backend server.
In a statement, yesterday, the interim chairman of the party, Adekunle Akindele, alerted the public to a sinister plot by the National Assembly candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to collude with some INEC officials to upload doctored results on the backend server.
He said: “We have been reliably informed by insiders that the defeated APC candidate is pursuing a nefarious plan to tamper with the results announced in last Saturday’s National Assembly election. The agenda is to upload fake results through connivance with some unscrupulous INEC officials. The fake results will suspend from what is announced.
“We are using this media to strongly warn against trying to undermine the will of Osun people. We are specifically calling on INEC officials to be wary of hired elements who can compromise the system in the service of APC.
The people of Osun voted massively for PDP legislative candidates. Any attempt to undermine the results that have been announced will be resisted by our citizens.
Meanwhile, the Yoruba Council of Elders (YCE) has told INEC not to allow anything to obstruct the counting of votes in Abuja.
Some of the political parties that have suffered, who are presidential candidates in the presidential and National Assembly elections, have questioned the integrity of the February 25, 2023 elections.
In a conversation with The Guardian, the Secretary General of YCE, Mr. Oladipo Oyewole, invited the Chairman of INEC, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, to continue his work. He said no one can teach Yakubu how to do the job he does.
The YCE clerk said: “Let the music play. Before all the professors act the way they did, they should have a reason to defend themselves. I watched this on television.
“All areas of criticism, we will call him to give a message and ask questions at the appropriate time. You have made him the head of the commission, let him complete the task.
The Paramount Ruler of Iwoland, Dr. Abdulrasheed Akanbi, yesterday, commended INEC on the conduct of the presidential election, describing it as the best, though not perfect.
In a statement, yesterday, the king urged older statesmen to be careful with their words, because the country is progressing.
He said, “I am not saying that the election is perfect, but this is the best. The elders who benefited from violence should allow us to grow. We move and improve. No rational mind should call for war with the objectivity and fairness of INEC.
Those in power must juxtapose the election they oversee with the legacy of this election of President Muhammad Buhari.
He said that this was the first election, where an unknown politician was elected.
“Former Acting Chairman of APC, Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, lost to other parties. I read the story of Lagos State, the headquarters of Bola Tinubu’s supporters, where Peter Obi won convincingly. I am privy to Benue where the sitting governor lost the Senatorial ticket. Katsina, the home of the President, was won by the opposition party. There is no one else that surprises you more than the APC Chairman, Sen. Adamu Abdullahi lost the unit to another candidate, and Osun State, where the first interim party chairman APC lost to PDP.
