Improving the welfare of citizens by investing in the health and welfare of women and children especially remains a priority for the Buhari Administration, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.
Therefore, according to him, the Federal Government is working with the state and development partners so that for example “no young person should experience the frustration of unemployment unnecessarily.”
The Vice President spoke yesterday in Iperu, Ikenne Local Government Area, Ogun State. where he commissioned two FG human capital development projects: a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital and a Skills Acquisition Centre.
Also, preparatory to the National elections this week, and the state elections next month, the Vice President, accompanied by the Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, also visited members of the All Progressives Congress in Ikenne LGA, Ogun State.
The VP interacted with APC leaders and members in Ward 1 of Ikenne Local Government.
Party leaders in Ikenne who received the Vice President included the Chairman of APC Ward 1, Hon. Segun Awomuti; party leader, Hon Kayode Shodiyan; The Deputy Chairman of Ikenne Local Government Council, Madam Bolanle Fakoya and other party supporters including Hon. Rotimi Onajole. Revd. Emmanuel Adebajo also accompanied the VP to the meeting.
Speaking in Iperu at the commissioning, the VP said that the Federal Government has ensured that “we provide, in collaboration with the State Government, a place for the development of human capital. This includes technology centers and Skills Acquisition Centers.
According to Prof. Osinbajo, “in the past few years, our government has also taken some steps to improve the quality of life of our citizens. We have increased access to education, improved sustainable agriculture, and improved infrastructure. The goal is to give young people a chance to get a good job.”
The VP further stated that the commissioned project “symbolizes the extraordinary progress made by the Federal Government to achieve the SDGs and, in the process, promote the health and well-being of our people.”
“The hospital is proof of our commitment to the health care of women and children, and to ensure that we secure the future of Ogun State and Nigeria. The facility will not only provide primary health care to treat preventable diseases, but will also ensure that women have access to pre- and postnatal care, which is critical to the well-being of our community,” he said.
Continuing, the Vice President stressed that the delivery of the project also confirms the Government’s recognition of the importance of health facilities.
He also expressed optimism that “the hospital and Skills Acquisition Center will be a model for other states to emulate, and that the establishment will contribute positively to the health, well-being and livelihood of all in Remo, Ogun State and Nigeria in general.”
The VP noted that the government led by President Muhammadu Buhari continues to strive to achieve the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, noting that the project is being implemented by the SDGs office in the Presidency.
The VP then listed other projects that are still under the SDGs in the Local Government Area including “the construction of a 250-bed Mother and Child Hospital, Ikenne (97% completed) and the Development of a Mega School, Ikenne Community Secondary School, as well as a Mini stadium in Ikenne Community High School – almost finished.
“There is also the construction of 36 classrooms at Mayflower School, Ikenne, and another Skill Acquisition Center, at Isanbi High School in Ilisan, which has also been completed,” he said.
*(Other projects mostly completed in Ikenne Local Government Area include the construction of Smart school, and the construction of middle and junior high school classrooms in Mayflower.
*Similarly, there has been the construction of a block of classrooms, administrative offices, toilets and boreholes at the Ikenne Community High School.
*Ongoing is the Tech hub, which will also have chalets for staff & visiting experts. There is also a 250-bed Hospital to be commissioned in Ikenne.
*Another completed project is the modernization of Ikenne Market and several solar street light installations in 10 different locations:

* Erosion control work and water supply plan in Ikenne and Ilisan have also been completed.
*There is also the construction of a Smart Model school along the old Sagamu road (for Early years, primary & secondary school students with facilities for special students.
* A 500 KVA transformer was also installed at Awolowo Avenue).
Prof. Osinbajo then thanked Governor Dapo Abiodun “for creating an enabling environment and working hard with the SDG Office to ensure the actualization of this project.”
He also commended the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals, Princess Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, for her “revolutionary, focused and result-oriented approach to delivering human capital development projects.”
