One person was killed on Wednesday after a fight between supporters All Progressive Congress (APC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Alkaleri Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
The incident happened in Duguri, the home town of the Governor of the state, Bala Muhammad.
Interestingly, the APC campaign was led by the former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, a senior member of the PDP.
Mr. Dogara is at loggerheads with Mr. Mohammed and has vowed to work for the APC governorship candidate, Sadiq Abubakar.
Residents told PREMIUM TIMES that trouble started when PDP supporters blocked the route leading to Duguri town to stop the APC campaign in the area. They were, however, overwhelmed by APC supporters.
“The second round of the fight ensured when the APC governorship candidate Mr. Abubakar delivered his campaign speech and gunshots disrupted the exercise.
“The shooting made the APC supporters trace the perpetrators who shot from their house. They caught some people and confiscated two Dane guns.
“One person was killed, and six people including two Civil Defense Corps personnel were injured.
The deceased was identified by residents as Danlami Shata, who was the ward head of Gwaram community in Duguri area, a resident, Ibrahim Garba, told PREMIUM TIMES.
The country’s police spokesman, Ahmad Wakili, did not respond to calls and text messages seeking comment on the incident.
Outing campaign
Speaking to many supporters, Mr. Dogara urged voters not to vote for Mr. Mohammed.
“We came to tell you the truth, that we have to change the leadership in Bauchi State. I came here to enlighten you that your son (Governor Mohammed) is there, but because he is not good, we have to change him.
“I urge you all to vote for Air Marshall Sadiq Abubakar on election day because Abubakar is the father who will bring help to the people of Bauchi state”, said the resident.
