At All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ondo State has suspended its campaign for the general election amid protests over the effects of the implementation of the naira redesign policy and fuel scarcity.
A group of youths and students staged a protest in Akure, the state capital, on Wednesday.
A similar protest on Tuesday has grounded activities in Ore, disrupting the flow of traffic on the busy Benin-Ore-Lagos road.
A group of youths, Active Citizens of Nigeria, blocked the Akure/Ilesha road and expressed their frustration to motorists.
Waving placards with different messages, the youths said they could not bear the hardship caused by shortage of cash and fuel.
The protest was joined by social media influencers like Yemi Fashipe, Kike Isijola and Brainbox Ilesanmi.
He said the protest was not sponsored by any political party.
The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), activists and artisans were also part of the protest.

Amid the protests, the APC said it was suspending its campaign rallies in the state
in solidarity with the citizens.
The state chairman of the party, Ade Adetimehin, said the APC empathizes with the people of the state over the current financial and fuel crisis in the state.
“The party is directing the party chairman, and the director general at all levels, in that regard, to postpone the general meeting, in sympathy with our people,” Mr. Adetimehin said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said Nigeria was experiencing unusual petrol costs and cash shortages, weeks away from “crucial general elections.”

“The strong belief is that this time will pass quickly,” he said.
He acknowledged the efforts of the state government led by Governor Rotimi Akeredolu to overcome the difficult situation and ensure the safety of the people of the state.
Mr. Adetimehin called on party members to better understand, and get to know those in different areas.

Ironically, the party is being blamed for the current crisis, even though factions within the party are also playing along.

The APC presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu, and his handlers have laid the blame at the doorstep of “cabals” in Aso Villa who are working with sections of the opposition.
He said the naira redesign policy and fuel scarcity were deliberate plans to make Mr. Tinubu lose the election.
He said the plan was to provoke people and make them vote against the ruling party.
