District Governor candidate All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State, Ovie Omo-Agege has accused the governor of Delta State of using state funds to sponsor the presidential campaign of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Mr. Omo-Agege who is the vice president of the Nigerian Senate, stated this on Thursday while addressing journalists after a close meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari in Abuja.
Delta State Governor Ifeanyi Okowa is the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
Mr. Omo-Agege said that the “infrastructural decay” in the country could have been done “If a lot of the money that the current governor has devoted to funding the Atiku/Okowa Campaign for President,” is channeled in that direction.
The APC candidate said Mr. Okowa has received about N4.2 trillion as federal allocation.
He lamented that the riverine region of the state has no hospital even though two governors of the state are medical doctors.
“I believe we can do better. We are a rich country. We have enough resources. Our roads, schools, and hospitals are badly damaged.
Mr Omo-Agege said he would focus on building infrastructure in the state if elected.

He promised to engage the services of reputable companies to handle major road projects in the country and also provide incentives to bring back companies that left the country due to insecurity.
“We want to address the health sector, we want to address the education sector, if you go to most of the higher education institutions in the country, there are even state colleges that are basically managed by the Tertiary Education Trust Fund, some of them are like secondary schools which is glorified,” he said.
The Delta government responded
The Delta State Commissioner for Information, Charles Aniagwu, has dismissed false allegations that Governor Okowa has siphoned state funds into the PDP presidential campaign.
He challenged Mr. Omo-Agege to give evidence.

Mr. Aniagwu who said only federal roads are in bad shape in the country was blamed on “poor representation” by Mr. Omo-Agege in the Senate.
He also denied Mr. Omo-Agege’s false allegations about the lack of hospitals in the riverine areas of Delta State.
He said Mr. Okowa has built a hospital in the river area – one of them, he said, is located in the heart of the creeks near the Atlantic Ocean.

“He (Mr. Omo-Agege) has just returned from abroad. Ask where they spend Christmas and New Years. He fled this country and returned two days ago. As soon as he returned to Villa (Aso Rock) and said something untrue,” Mr Aniagwu said.
The commissioner said it was not true that Mr. Okowa’s administration got N4 trillion as federal allocation since 2015.
