Reverend Victor Kusi Boateng, the Secretary of the National Cathedral Board of Trustees, has responded to allegations leveled against him by the Member of Parliament for North Tongu constituency, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa.
According to the founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, the statement made by Mr. Ablakwa is a twisted narrative of events to pursue a “sinister political agenda”.
“There was never any criminal intent or crime committed while dealing with the Government of Ghana or the National Cathedral,” said in a statement.
“I look forward to CHRAJ’s investigation during which I will present my side of the matter to the Commission. I will also address the matter fully in public without trying to spoil the public mind as I have done.
“When all is said and done, I will seek compensation from Mr. Ablakwa for his deliberate defamatory statements against me,” he added.
CHRAJ submitted
Tongu Utara Member of Parliament, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, asked the Commission for Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) to investigate the Secretary of the Board of Trustees of the National Cathedral, Reverend Victor Kusi-Boateng, on conflicts of interest, including ownership. of various identities and alleged other criminal affairs.
The petition, which was received by two CHRAJ Deputy Commissioners yesterday, also stated that there was a cash transfer of GH¢2.6million from the National Cathedral Secretariat to JNS Talent Center Limited owned by Rev. Kusi-Boateng under his secondary identity, Kwabena Adu Gyamfi.
The petition sought the CHRAJ’s mandate under Article 218 of the 1992 Constitution to investigate the “heinous conflict of interest” regarding the position of Reverend Victor Kusi-Boateng in the council of the national cathedral because he “literally paid his own company amazingly. GH¢2.6million for no work done”.
Pastor Kusi-Boateng, who is also the founder of Power Chapel Worldwide, according to Mr. Ablakwa, is the same person as Kwabena Adu Gyamfi, who received GH¢2.6 million from the national cathedral council.
The National Cathedral responded
Meanwhile, the Executive Director of the National Cathedral, Dr. Paul Opoku Mensah, has in a statement denied the allegations of corruption and conflict of interest against the Secretary of the Council by the Tongu Utara MP.
Dr. Opoku Mensah explained that the amount paid on September 8, 2021, was a loan from an unnamed councilor.
“So, this is not an illegal payment,” Dr. Opoku Mensah stated.
“This is a documented trail that you can ask for verification. If the MP does not understand the problem in the accounting, because in the accounting the person with the audited account cannot explain everything, then he calls you to clarify,” said.
Dr Opoku Mensah’s statement added, “I really understand the political distrust in our system, but, especially when it comes from Parliament, you expect a certain process and if you suspect, you ask for verification and clarification.”
