Oduduru bags provisional suspension, may be banned for 6 years | The Guardian Nigeria News

Divine Oduduru, Nigeria’s national record holder in the 200 metres, has been suspended from competition indefinitely by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) for two anti-doping offences.

Oduduru, who now risks a six-year ban, was charged with “possession and/or use or attempted use of various prohibited substances”.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the AIU is the disciplinary branch of the world athletics governing body, World Athletics.

The latest development comes at a time when Nigeria is at a low ebb in track and field, about a year after the 11-year ban imposed on former national team captain Blessing Okagbare.

AIU linked Oduduru to Okagbare’s wrongdoing, which it said happened before the 2020 Tokyo Olympics in 2021, with other details yet to be heard.

NAN reports that Oduduru has best times of 9.86 seconds in the 100 meters and 19.73 seconds in the 200 meters.

He was disqualified in the 100m heats in Tokyo, where he also reached the 200m semi-finals.
