The Obidients Movement has decided to throw its support behind the governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in Enugu State, Dr Peter Mbah, in the March 18 election directing all members in the state to come out en masse to vote for him. .
At a ceremony attended by hundreds of members of the Obidients Movement in Enugu on Tuesday, a founding member of the group, Comrade Kennedy Iyere, said that Dr Mbah was chosen from various gubernatorial contestants based on character, competence and capacity, stressing that the movement has great confidence in his ability to lead Enugu creditably and to the expectations of the people.
Comrade Iyere called on the Obidients in Enugu to ignore other gubernatorial candidates in the state who claim to have been endorsed by the movement, saying “Dr Mbah is our favorite candidate and our choice” and “other candidates running under the auspices of the Obidients revolution in Enugu are fake.”
He said, “We stand here today to recognize you, Barr. Peter Grandma. The potential that you have, has forced the Obidients to come to you. You will be the next governor of this country because you have what it takes to lead the country well.
“The competence that spoke for Peter Obi now speaks for Peter Mbah. The capacity that spoke for Peter Obi also speaks for Peter Mbah. Peter Obi built Fidelity Bank. He also built Next Cash ‘N Carry. Peter Mbah built Pinnacle Oil and Gas. He also build another successful business.Anyone who has not built anything is not fit to rule one of the biggest Igbo states.
“Peter Obi became a movement because we saw a beauty in him that the PDP did not see. The same beauty has been seen in Grandma, we are telling the people of Enugu to see it.
“What you can give to the Obidients movement is good governance when you are the governor of this state.
“For the peace of Enugu State, political stability, good governance, the welfare of the people, the security of the people, you must find a person with character. Obi has character; that is why we are not looking at other presidential candidates, regardless of the money they have.
“The same way we pulled Peter Obi out, is the way we pulled Peter Mbah to be the face of the Obidients Movement in Enugu State. We support you because of your character. We support you because of your competence. We support you because of your capacity. You are the favorite candidate and candidate of choice.
“The other candidates who are under the Obidients revolution in Enugu State are fake. The Labor Party did not form the Obidients movement. Peter Obi did not form the Odibients movement. But Peter Obi now got his name after the Obidients movement because of Peter.
“Legitimacy also speaks for you. Peter Obi has told us at Arise Television to support anyone with character, competence, capacity, and credibility. So we are working on that step and we are transferring the mantle to Peter Mbah.
“The way Peter Obi was a revolution in the whole world, you are a revolution in Enugu State. But we owe you a promise; if you win and change from Peter Mbah we know, we will also come back and fight you”.
Responding, PDP governor candidate, Dr. Grandmother, appreciates Obidients for their decision to give her trust, support and vote.
Mbah, who gave an overview of the manifesto and vision for Enugu, reiterated his determination to solve the perennial water problem in Enugu within 180 days, build 10,000km of roads in eight years, solve the challenges of waste management within his first 100 days in office, and move the country’s economy from now $4.4 to $30 billion in eight years.
“I want to share my excitement about what happened here today. It’s really a lot. I also accept the request to serve with humility, because your support is amazing because of what you receive.
“In the same way you said that I did not look for you and you have done your research and concluded that I have what Enugu State represents; if Enugu State means character and competence, in the same way, I can assure you that I will serve this country with honesty and competence”, he said.
