Atiku Abubakar’s presidential campaign spokesperson, Daniel Bwala, has said former President Olusegun Obasanjo is seeking a third term by proxy through the endorsement of Labor Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
Obasanjo officially endorsed Obi for the February 25 election, saying the former Anambra State Governor has an edge over other candidates.
But Bwala who rejected the development on Monday said the 2023 election is the election of the people and not of big personalities.
According to Bwala, “there is nothing about the (Obasanjo) administration in 1999-2007 that gives us the power of heaven to dictate our future or the outcome of the elections that have not yet taken place”.
He said: “In Nigeria today, we have at least 5 former Nigerian presidents who are still alive and minding their own business while being fathers of the state, peace builders, etc., not domineering, controlling and meddling in the affairs of the nation like Obasanjo .
“For the record, Obasanjo also referred to OBJ having served two terms as a democratically elected president from 1999-2007.
“The traditional posture and role of the former president has been that of a statesman, who guides, encourages and fosters democratic growth and national development by strengthening institutions, educating and enlightening citizens, promoting citizen participation in government, but OBJ is a person who believes that his role also includes electing and imposing the president every time, as if we were to open a monarchical system of government.
“He believes that he is the only former leader who knows what is right for NIgeria, who has the heavenly power to predict the future of NIgeria and its leaders. He believes that only his administration has done well and therefore has the authority to choose the next leader or president.
“The way they choose the next president is to undermine the candidate or humiliate the candidate who voted. They often send letters that will be released like a letter to Nigeria about the direction of the country in power.
“They think we are under military rule. In a letter of 2014 or 2015 they accused GEJ of training snipers to kill citizens, although it was proven to be a false accusation, in a letter of 2018 or 2019, they accused Buhari of trying to divide Nigeria and cause secession, and now he wrote another letter to accuse the other two candidates who have vowed not to ascend to the country’s loftiest seat, even though he made a u-turn and supported Atiku in 2019 because of his hatred for BUhari who played a role in bringing him to power. So it’s all about him. For his wishes and wishes are the same as the wishes and wishes of the nation.
According to the spokesperson of the PDP PCC, a cursory look at Obasanjo’s letter, one cannot help but draw conclusions from a person who believes strongly in himself.
Bwala further observed that all the former president’s letters are riddled with me, me and even when he makes reference to the candidate he considers him as a source of relevance and fame.
