The Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) condemned the attack on corporate news crews monitoring Saturday’s governorship and House of Assembly elections in Lagos State.
The crew who suffered the attack were journalist, Lekan Shobowale; cameraman, Fólórunsó Abiala; and the driver, Ope Adegoke. They were attacked and their equipment was damaged by hoodlums, led by a woman in the Onigbongbo area of the country.
In a statement on Sunday, BCOS NUJ Chairman, Dupe Fehintola, and Secretary, Olamiposi Ishola, described the attack as misguided.
The union said its crew was carrying out its responsibility to monitor and cover the election when the hoodlums attacked the members.
The BCOS of NUJ wondered how their members would be targeted for attack, adding that the thugs were hiding during the election which was supposed to be a transparent and open exercise.
While calling on INEC, the Lagos State Government and the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident with a view to preventing a recurrence, BCOS NUJ said its members will continue to play a supervisory role to restore values and standards in all areas. and sectors.

However, kudos to some good Samaritans and security officers who quickly rescued the team and helped them to a safe distance.
