Some youths believed to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Tamale South constituency have besieged the party office to protest the removal of Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader in Parliament.

A statement signed by the Secretary General of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, read, “The National Leadership of the National Democratic Congress wishes to officially notify the following changes that the party has made in its parliamentary leadership.”

The changes include Mr. Cassiel Ato Forson replacing Haruna Iddrisu as Minority Leader, Deputy Minority Leader, Mohammed Muntaka replaced by Emmanuel Armah Kofi Buah, Minority Whip Kwame Agbodza with Ahmed Ibrahim as the First Minority Whip, and Comfort Doyoe Ghansah retained the second minority position. whip.

However, the NDC Chairman for Tamale South Constituency, Rauf Sulemana has indicated that he will reject any attempt by the party to remove Haruna Iddrisu as the Minority leader in parliament.

He accused the National Chairman of the party, Johnson Seidu Nketiah, and the Secretary General, Mr Kwetey, of masterminding the removal of Haruna Iddrisu and warned him not to visit constituencies during the campaign.

The party supporters who besieged party officials are of the opinion that the party should consult all party members from the National level to the constituency level before making such a decision for the entire party.

He threatened to vote for ‘skirt and blouse’ if the decision to remove Haruna Iddrisu as the minority leader in parliament is upheld.

“If you look at Haruna Iddrisu’s role in Ghanaian politics, you can conclude that the leadership made a big mistake that will affect the NDC party in 2024 and the leadership should reconsider their decision if they want us to win the 2024 election.”

Due to the tension in the Tamale metropolis, some residents have called on the security agencies to increase security in the metropolis to prevent future disturbances.
