This comes after another potential flag bearer, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, the cabinet minister in charge of Trade and Industry resigned to concentrate on campaigning.
The NPP plans to choose its flag bearer for the 2024 elections in the last quarter of 2023.
Akoto was the Member of Parliament for Kwadaso Constituency from 2009 to 2017.
He served two terms as Member of Parliament for Kwadaso from 2009 to 2016.
While in Parliament, Afriyie Akoto was the Deputy Ranking Member of the Committee on Food and Agriculture and Cocoa Affairs.
He was replaced by Samiu Kwadwo Nuamah when he lost the NPP parliamentary primaries in 2015.
