No one will be punished for any reason; all coupons will be attended – Ofori-Atta


Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta has assured pensioners that no one will be penalized for any reason in relation to the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).

They assure that matured coupons will be honored after Tuesday, February 21, 2023.

A statement issued after the retiree called him on Friday February 17 said “the settlement will be done after Tuesday, then we can start processing everyone. [bonds]”.

The statement added, “But let no one have the inkling that anyone will be punished for any reason. All coupons will be treated in the same manner as the contract was signed.

“We are in a difficult situation, so we are carrying out a debt exchange program and we hope that the percentage of bonds signed in the program will reduce the interest on the debt and give us fiscal space to honor any commitment we have. with our bond.”

Earlier, the former Director General of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Dr. Adu Anane Antwi who is one of the pensioners who asked to be released from the Domestic Debt Exchange said that they are fighting for the Exemption of Issuers and are not free.

He states that the two are completely different.

“If you don’t understand the issue between self-exempt and issuer-exempt, you won’t understand what we are doing,” he said on TV3’s Ghana Tonight show on Wednesday, February 15.

He added, “No one is against us, we are fighting for the Issuer to be released and we have not got it.

“This is a technical thing, even the people in the securities do not understand if they do not do the analysis. We want to be in the exempt status of the issuer of securities.
