Friday’s announcement of Machado’s win not only caused the White House to whine and MAGA to have a meltdown, but Nobel Committee ChairJørgen Watne Frydnes was forced to explain how the decision was made.
It all started when a reporter asked Frydnes if Trump’s constant lobbying for the award and his insistence that it would “be an insult to the United States if he doesn’t get it” affected the committee’s deliberation and thinking.
Frydnes insisted there was only one person who really affected the deliberation, and it was the guy who founded the prize: Alfred Nobel.
“In the long history of the Nobel Peace Prize, I think this committee has seen many types of campaign, media attention. We receive thousands and thousands of letters every year of people wanting to say what, for them, leads to peace,” he said. “This committee sits in a room filled with the portraits of all laureates and that room is filled with both courage and integrity. So we base only our decision on the work and the will of Alfred Nobel.”
