MANILA, Philippines – F2 Logistics coach Regine Diego made no excuses for their heavy loss to Creamline in Game 1 of their best-of-three semifinal series in the 2023 Premier Volleyball League All-Filipino Conference on Saturday at the Philsports Arena.
“He hasn’t been here yet [in the semis] for the longest time. Maybe he’s still used to it, but I don’t want an excuse. We lost because we didn’t want to win, Creamline wanted more. That’s the reason,” said Diego in the Philippines after losing 24-26, 18-25, 25-22, 15-25 to Creamline.
“It wasn’t because of injuries because the whole team worked hard. We lost because it was our fault. We didn’t play our best today.
Diego still praised the second unit, which put up bravely in the second set and helped the start of Kim Kianna Dy, Elaine Kasilag, who filled in the point of Myla Pablo, and Ivy Lacsina.
“I like the second string, they did the best. But we have to work more, we have to learn from this positively. But we still lost and I can’t accept sorry I’m a sore loss. I really want to win. I very competitive. I don’t need an excuse,” he said.
The young F2 Logistics coach overturned a poor fourth set, where he started 1-8, with a win in the third.
“This is part of the trend. It’s very difficult for us coaches to push him because when he stops, he stops. He still needs to find motivation or something to say to wake him up,” said Diego. “He can’t play like that. This is the semi-final, you can give your heart or not. I hope they learn from it because it is very important. This is not just a random game. This is the semi-final. It’s a different ball game now.
Diego said Pablo’s status remains day-to-day after he missed his second game in a row.
“He will tell me. I want him to be mentally prepared. I want him to be physically prepared because I will not risk one game because it could be worse. I will not risk another conference for just one game,” he said. “Daily. I will try to talk to him when going through rehab for his illness. But after that he has to tell me that he is ready.”
F2 Logistics tried to fight for dear life in Game 2 and stop Creamline from making it to their fifth All-Filipino Finals on Tuesday at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“I told them that they can’t stop at any time. They can’t stop connecting with each other because one point is very important. This has been a problem since then, so I tried to remind them that it could cost them one game or one set,” said Diego. “We got here. The opportunity is here, whether you get it or not.
