At Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) the collecting officer for the governorship election in Kano, Ahmad Doko, has announced a two-hour break to review the election results before the final declaration.
Mr Doko announced the decision after receiving the election results from the 44 local government areas in the country.
Opposition candidate from New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) Abba Kabir, got 1,019,700 votes against the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Nasir Gawuna, who got 890,705 votes.

The NNPP candidate won with 128,995 votes.
The postponement of the announcement by the returning officer for a two-hour break was met with uproar by NNPP agents who alleged that the process of declaration of results could be compromised.
The NNPP also expressed its suspicion that the election could be declared inconclusive like what happened in the 2019 election.
However, Mr Doko said he should carefully examine the reported incidents of violence and over-voting before announcing the winner under the 2022 Elections Act.
He said he would resume at 5am to make his final declaration.
