
Based on reports from People’s NewsNigerian media agency, the commissioner stated that the British government is looking for measures to boost trade relations with Nigeria, such as collaboration in the introduction of electricity meters.
Mr. Ben Llewelyn-Jones announced that the UK’s total imports from Nigeria at the time were £2.2 billion, which means that the two countries had a total trade volume of £5.5 billion between them.
According to the ambassador, the British government is also establishing the Developing Countries Trade Scheme (DCTS), which will promote and strengthen Nigeria’s exports. He said 99% of goods sent to the UK would be duty free under the rules.
“With the introduction of the DCTS, which will take place in April, 99% of Nigeria’s exports to the UK will be duty free, as we see this as a real opportunity to increase trade between the two countries. The UK market is huge, so we have reached out to small and large businesses in various countries.It is intended to help exporters and others in the trading business to make the UK an export destination. the commissioner said.
“Also, it is important to note that our government has done a lot of work in the country through initiatives such as the UK International Investment which looks at investment possibilities and provides. We are working closely with the Nigerian authorities to overcome some of the challenges that come with investing in the country, and we are also working on several ways to strengthen the relationship between the countries,” he added.
Mr Llewellyn-Jones stated that the UK government is considering working with Nigeria to equip the country with power meters.
“England is known as one of the most sophisticated metering in the world, which will make a quality difference in Nigeria when it comes to the electricity sector because consumers will get the best value for the money they buy,” said.
“In terms of services, there are various English schools in the country, as well as various partnerships with universities across the country. This shows that we are also about substance. We are committed to ensuring that we explore every opportunity available to strengthen bilateral relations between two countries,” he added.
