Nigeria’s Flying Eagles got back on track at the U-20 Africa Cup of Nations after beating hosts Egypt 1-0 in their second group match on Wednesday.
Tutor Ladan Bosso’s side last weekend began losing to Senegal, but a better performance against the Junior Pharaohs saw the Flying Eagles keep alive their hopes of an eighth title and a place in the World Cup.
After several unsuccessful attempts to break the deadlock, Solomon Agbalaka’s bullet header in the 71st minute was enough for the Flying Eagles against the hosts as they increased their chances of qualifying for the knockout rounds.
The defender was voted Man-of-the-match for his match-winning goal.
With this victory, the Flying Eagles are now second in Group A with three points behind Senegal.
Host nation Egypt is in third place with points from two games, level with bottom-placed Mozambique with a lower goal deficit.
