Nigerian Army recruitment not employment opportunity – COAS

The Chief of Army Staff, Faruk Yahaya, has said that recruitment into the Nigerian Army should not be seen as a job opportunity but a call to defend Nigeria.

Mr. Yahaya, the lieutenant general, said this while flagging 10 km endurance open for candidates undergoing screening for qualification for 84 Regular Recruits Intake at the Nigerian Army Battle Fitness Center (NABFC), Falgore Forest, Kano State.

The Director, Army Public Relations, Onyema Nwachukwu, disclosed this in a statement on Friday in Abuja.

He said unlike other professions, recruitment into the Nigerian army remains a national calling to defend Nigeria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

The COAS said the service requires citizens who are not only physically and medically fit but also mentally and emotionally stable.

According to him, this is not a job opportunity but a call to national service, because it requires selflessness and if necessary, the highest sacrifice and therefore, it is not an all-encompassing affair.

Mr. Yahaya advised the candidates to take the screening seriously, adding that only the best would appear in the final enlistment.

He also warned personnel conducting screening exercises to protect their integrity by avoiding any compromise.

Speaking during a briefing on the Screening Exercise to the COAS, Chief of Administration (Army), Wilson Ali, said that the training area has been conducive for the exercise.

Ali said that there are progressive infrastructures, such as electricity, potable water, upgrading of the medical center, hostels and toilets in the center.

He assured the COAS of a hassle-free screening exercise.

“The COAS then embarked on a tour of the facility and visited the candidates who received attention at the medical centre.
