“What is clear is that the Office of the President of Nigeria is not a pleasant one. However, it will demand the highest standards of hard work, discipline, focus, determination and commitment from the next President,” Mr. Tinubu said in the statement.

The former governor of Lagos State said, if elected, he and Mr. Shettima will replicate the development programs that they did in Lagos and Borno states as former governors.

TO MY COMPATRIOTS: WHY I ASK YOU TO BE THE PRESIDENT OF NIGERIA

Dear Nigerians, with a remarkable history and a great awareness of the challenges that lie ahead as the country I am looking forward to today. In the past few months, my friend, Senator Kashim Shettima and I and other leaders of our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC) have traversed the length and breadth of our country during our campaign for the upcoming presidential, gubernatorial and legislative elections at all levels.

I have been overwhelmed by the enthusiastic crowd that trooped out to welcome us in all the countries we visited. On Tuesday, we have our grand finale rally in Lagos State. It is clear to me from my interactions with our people across the country that despite the challenges, APC is very popular among the majority of our people.

In all the countries that have been visited, there are visible landmarks of the great impact of the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari has been made in terms of infrastructure development in the form of rural and urban roads and expressways, modern railways, as well as good airport facilities. among others.

Millions of the poor and vulnerable have benefited from the various social intervention programs of the Buhari administration. The amount disbursed for this category of our people is unprecedented in terms of the sheer transfer of resources to the less privileged part of the population not only in our country but in Africa. It is amazing and ironic that those who have been in power for 16 years have made higher profits from petroleum than they did, but have not been able to effectively address infrastructure or poverty. He now has the temerity to cast aspersions on the APC administration.

Our campaign tour clearly shows that you, our people, are not fooled.

Of course, we understand the hardships our people are going through and the challenges our country is facing. Some of this can be mitigated by well-conceived and articulated policies. The truth is, there is no such thing as a perfect government in human society.

Some problems are also of global origin such as the unanticipated COVID-19 pandemic that disrupted the world economy or the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war that disrupts the global food and fuel supply chain.

It is clear to me that there is much that the Buhari government has done that is commendable in terms of infrastructure, agriculture and poverty alleviation. We need to build on that achievement.

There are also some sectors that need to adopt a new approach and emphasize new priorities.

What is clear is that the Office of the President of Nigeria is not fun. However, it will demand the highest standards of hard work, discipline, focus, determination and commitment from the next President.

I solemnly promise that the Vice President and I will dedicate ourselves wholeheartedly to work for the greatest good and happiness of Nigerians.

Senator Shettima and I have an outstanding record of high performance in public office as Governors of our state. In Lagos, where I served as governor for 8 remarkable years, I led a team of talented, hardworking, creative, intelligent and purposeful people who aligned governance and set new standards of good governance that continue to lead the country to growth and greater development. date. Lagos State being the 5th largest economy in Africa is not a coincidence. It is the product of consistent hard work and creative leadership.

We seek to demonstrate on a national scale that energy and capacity that transforms our country to bring prosperity to all Nigerians.

Our government will work to ensure not only goodbye to poverty but also bring an era of prosperity in our country. To achieve this, we will redesign the security architecture to increase the capacity of the armed forces and security agencies to ensure the safety of people’s lives and property. This will allow our farmers to return to their farms with increased food production and affordability. We will initiate measures to boost the income of farmers and improve the standard of living in our rural areas, home to the majority of our people.

We will do our best to drastically increase the country’s revenue generating capacity so that we can meet and fundamentally improve the quality of social services in education, health and housing, among others. We are determined to ensure that the ongoing attacks by unions on our public universities become a thing of the past. We will make facilities and welfare packages in our health sector comparable to the best in the world so that many health professionals who have migrated to other countries will be attracted back home.

Ensuring adequate and uninterrupted electricity will be one of the top priorities. This will help improve the performance of the industrial sector and create large-scale employment for the youth in large numbers. We will create a strong and powerful credit system so that more people can get the basics of life such as houses, cars and household appliances and pay in stages. That will have the direct effect of reducing the motivation to use corrupt methods of wealth accumulation.

To fight corruption, we will also provide better welfare and motivation for the courts to perform their functions with integrity, and we will also increase the autonomy of anti-corruption agencies and provide the necessary incentives to make them less vulnerable to the influence of corruption.

We believe that Nigeria has been gifted and blessed with its citizens living in poverty. We are hardworking and talented people destined for greatness. We are determined to offer visionary and creative leadership to help realize Nigeria’s great potential. We are not fooling ourselves that we are supermen with a magic wand to magically solve all our country’s problems. But what I really want is our determination to select the best and brightest talents in Nigeria to help our country achieve its true destiny for the good of the people and the dignity and pride of the black people.
