The Black Galaxies have withdrawn from the postponed CHAN 2022 after losing 2-0 to Niger in the quarter-finals.

Imarana Dan Baro put Menas in front after 11 minutes with a header that Ghana defender Konadu Yiadom headed into the goal at the Miloud Hadefi Stadium in Oran.

The Black Galaxies fought for the equalizer but failed to break down a tough opposition that has yet to concede in the tournament.

Niger took a one-goal advantage into the break.

In the second half, Soumana Hainikoye added to Niger’s tally in the 49th minute when he sent a brilliant curler from the edge of Ghana’s penalty box and beyond the reach of Goalkeeper, Danlad Ibrahim.

Coach Annor Walker responded by introducing captains Gladson Awako and Augustine Boakye for Sylvester Simba and Kofi Kordzi.

However, it was to no avail as Niger defended valiantly to secure a place in the semi-finals.

The Black Galaxies will receive $400,000 in prize money from CAF for finishing as quarter-finalists in Algeria.

The defeat ended Ghana’s 14-year absence from winning the CHAN trophy and made it the country’s best ever second-place finish in 2009 and 2014.

This is Niger’s second win against Ghana in the CHAN as they will next face the hosts, Algeria in the Last 4.
