Next week, Mahmoud is going to take Nicole to the pool. There, he hopes she’ll ditch her own swimsuit for a burkini.
There are many women who do not want to wear anything for swimming. But Nicole didn’t wear it for herself or for her faith – she wore it because Mahmoud demanded it.
And as you can see in this full preview, he hates every moment of it.
In season 4, Episode 8, Nicole Sherbiny opens up about when her husband’s expectations were true for her.
At first, he thought he understood. Long sleeves, long pants. Often with layers. Despite her interest in fashion, Nicole seemed willing to try it out.
Then, she explained to the camera, she and Mahmoud Elsherbiny took a trip to the Red Sea shortly after their marriage.
It was, Nicole shared with the camera, “a very important moment” for her.
On the beach, he saw a lot of people – mostly tourists – in ordinary swimwear. Some in one-pieces, others in bikinis.
Nicole felt jealous of him. They must wear a full-body, hooded swimsuit – a burkini. “That fact became clear and very quickly.”
“This is my new life and I’m just not used to it and I don’t like it very much,” Nicole said. “You know, I don’t like wearing that.”
And, to be clear, they shouldn’t be. Not according to Egyptian law. And, of course, many Muslim women do not wear burkinis.
But Mahmoud expects him to dress according to his wishes. This has been a major source of conflict on screen.
Speaking to the camera, Nicole confirmed that she is still worried about wearing a burkini.
He did it for Mahmoud. Despite everything, he loved his wife very much. Clear.
While Nicole feels “weird” wearing this, Mahmoud seems happy.
“I love you, you did it, honey. Thank you,” praised Mahmoud in the preview.
“You look so cute. Really good, really. Really, you look amazing,” he said. “And thank you very much.”
He might have preferred that Nicole wear a hijab, but he had set boundaries that he would not cross.
Another part of last week’s promo seemed to be in public disapproval. This time, Nicole is no longer in a burkini.
He wanted time away from Mahmoud. That’s obvious. We don’t know what he’s been up to this time – and, it seems, neither has he.
But, at least he didn’t fight in front of his mother.
