Rangers have completed the signing of midfielder Nicolas Raskin from Standard Liege on deadline day.
The 21-year-old is one of manager Michael Beale’s main targets during this transfer window and it is understood that Rangers are unable to compete with a number of clubs across Europe for the player.
Raskin has agreed a long-term deal and became the second Ibrox club in January following the signing of Todd Cantwell.
Sky Sports News understands Beale is happy with the business the club has done this month, despite the absence of Morgan Whittaker after Swansea decided to retain the striker, and Rangers are now planning to make additions in the summer.
Raskin said: “I’m very happy here and I’m also very happy to join such a big club. I’m looking forward to playing at Ibrox. It was very exciting when I was told about Rangers’ interest because it’s a big club.
“I’m looking forward to making my debut and I hope to do it soon.”
Beale added: “As a football club, Nicolas is a player we have been tracking for a long time and we are delighted to welcome him and his family to Rangers.
“He is a young player who has gained good experience in domestic and European competitions. I look forward to working with him and integrating him into our team.”
Rangers sporting director Ross Wilson said: “We are delighted to have strengthened our squad today with the arrival of Nico.
“He is a talented young player and someone I know will enjoy working and developing his talents with Michael and our staff.”
Raskin – who joined Standard Liege’s academy before a spell at youth level with Anderlecht – made his senior debut in February 2018 before making 96 appearances in all competitions for his hometown club.
If his work permit is confirmed, Raskin will begin training with the Rangers in the coming days.
What will Raskin bring to the Rangers?
Speaking about the midfielder on Monday, Beale said: “He’s a fantastic player.
“He is a man who can link the midfield and the forwards, technically he is a very good player, he can play as a six or an eight.
“He is very good because of his age and the fact that his contract is up. He has a lot of people who like him and is a player who is also being considered for the Belgian national team.
“I want the players here for the long term and make us stronger now. Once the window closes, training takes place and I look forward to it.
“We always have different targets for each position – I’m very happy with the targets from the recruitment team, we’re all aligned with the club.”
