The National Identification Authority (NIA) has started printing 541,529 backlog cards that have been collected since July 2022.

According to NIA, the preparatory work for quick printing began on Wednesday, March 15, with the configuration of printers, print servers, monitors as well as the deployment of additional staff from regional and district offices to increase staff capacity at the central office.

The printing of the cards was delayed due to financial constraints faced by the NIA.

Because of this, more than 3.5 million cards are locked in a bonded warehouse.

A statement issued by the NIA on March 21, states, “The National Identification Authority wishes to inform the general public that on Saturday, March 18, 2023, it will begin to quickly print the backlog of 541,529 records collected since July 2022. arising from the lack of blank cards due to financial challenges “.

The NIA noted that the card printing started after the payment of GH?100 million by the government to CalBank PLC.

Printing of blank cards is expected to last 11 days, ending on March 29.

“It started with the rapid printing following the payment of GH?100 million by the Government of Ghana (GoG) to CalBank PLC, which then resulted in the release of a number of blank cards to the NIA on Tuesday, March 14, 2023. The printing of card blanks is expected to last for 11 days, the end on March 29, 2023,” the NIA said in the statement.

The NIA has assured that it will make a public announcement and make the cards available in regional and district offices across the country for collection by registrants from July 2022.

The NIA assured, “at the end of the exercise, the NIA will provide these cards in the Regional and District Offices nationwide and announce to the public when those who registered for the card from July 2022 must go to their respective NIA offices to collect the cards. to be given to people- that person”.
