Ndzimande wishes matric class of 2022

The Minister of Higher Education, Science and Innovation, Blade Nzimande wants the matric class of 2022 to also wait for the results.

In a statement issued by his office, Nzimande assured current and prospective students that the announcement and release of matriculation results will not affect their readiness for the 2023 academic year.

The university academic year begins

“University registration for the 2023 academic year began on January 16 and is anticipated to close on February 20. However, there will be some universities that allow late registration.

“Prospective students are advised to keep in touch with the university of their choice through communication channels,” the statement read.

TVET is still taking applications

Nzimande also said that although most Technical, Vocational and Training (TVET) Schools have started teaching and learning, some colleges are still accepting students in areas whose enrollment targets cannot be met.

“The community college was opened on January 11, 2023 for the inland provinces and opened today, January 18, 2023 for the coastal provinces.

“Prospective students are advised to go to their chosen college for registration for the 2023 academic year.”

“As part of the Department of Higher Education and the normal process of working with the sector to prepare the registration process for the academic year, a consultation meeting is currently being held with various stakeholders including with the University of South Africa, (Usaf), South African Colleges. School Principals’ Organization (SACPO) , South African Union of Students (SAUS) and South African Technical and Vocational Students Association (SATVESA).

Results to be communicated

Nzimande also reminded students that the result of the application will be communicated to all applicants once NSFAS has received confirmation from the Institution that an academic offer has been made.

“This will be communicated to all students via SMS, email and through the student’s myNSFAS account. For more information on the NSFAS application process, applicants are advised to visit the NSFAS website at www.nsfas.org.za.

“Further details of our readiness will be announced by the minister before the end of January during the ministers’ annual media conference following the final engagement with all relevant stakeholders in the post-secondary education and training sector.”
