At National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) says it intercepted a Brazilian returnee, Agbasi Chux, with 105 packs of cocaine on Christmas Day.
The drug law enforcement agency in a statement by its spokesman, Femi Babafemi, said the drug was hidden in candy rolls at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) Ikeja, Lagos, on Christmas Day.
According to the NDLEA, the suspect was arrested on December 25, 2022 at the Arrival Hall ‘D’ of the MMIA during the check-in of passengers arriving by Qatar Airways from Sao Paulo, Brazil, via Doha, the capital of Qatar.
The agency added that the arrest followed credible intelligence obtained by the NDLEA after its operatives searched two checked bags of the suspect containing 105 packages of cocaine. The cocaine weighed 2.8 kilograms and 43 grams of marijuana.
“The preliminary search of the two checked bags of the suspect almost set him free as nothing could be found in them until the NDEA officers saw again the nylon duty-free shopping bag containing the ‘candy’ wrapper that he was holding in his hand.

“A close examination of the duty free shopping bag revealed the candy wrappers inside were actually used to conceal 105 packs of cocaine weighing 2.8 kilograms and 43 grams of cannabis.
“Preliminary tests conducted on a plastic bottle of body lotion also found in the suspect’s possession also tested positive for cocaine with a total weight of 472 grams. The NDLEA also announced the arrest of three additional suspected drug dealers, who are said to have been arrested by operatives with a total of 256 kilograms of illegal substances seized from them during interdiction operations in Kwara, Kogi and Niger states last week.

According to the NDLEA, stop-and-search operations on the Ilorin-Jebba route during the yuletide period are usually used for arrests in the two states.
The NDLEA said one of the arrested suspects, Iris Saeed, 19, was caught with 60 blocks of compressed Sativa weed weighing 30kg in Niger state.

In the same vein, the suspect, Ibrahim Jibril, 20, was arrested on the same route with 40 blocks of Sativa cannabis weighing 16kgs coming from Lagos to Jigawa in a Toyota Hiace commercial bus on December 27.

“While commending the officers and men of the MMlA, Kwara, Kogi and Niger state Commands for the arrests and seizures, the Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of the NDLEA, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) CON, OFR called him together with his colleagues across the country so that offensive actions against drug cartels in the new year with the same focus on efforts to reduce the demand for drugs.
