NDC Flagbearer Election: I will be happy if Mahama contests; my constituents want him – Agbodza


Minority Chief Whip Kwame Agbodza has said constituents want to see John Dramani Mahama contest for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) flag bearer position ahead of the 2024 general elections.

Asked to confirm whether Mr Mahama has announced his intention to the Minority to contest, Mr Agbodza who is the Member of Parliament for Adaklu told TV3 on Tuesday, February 21 after making his constituents opinion, “I will be very happy if he does.”

Former President Mahama has reportedly expressed his intention to contest the NDC flag election in order to become President in the 2024 general election if he wins the internal polls.

Media reports indicate that he has announced his intention to the Minority in Parliament on Tuesday, February 21.

Meanwhile, the NDC has announced that it is all set to open nominations for the election of Presidential candidates and Parliamentary Candidates for the 2024 General Election.

So, effective, midnight Wednesday 22 February 2023, the Nomination Form for Parliamentary Candidates will be accessible to everyone for purchase on the party’s official website; www.ghanandc.com, the main opposition party said in a statement on Tuesday, February 21.

The statement said nomination forms for Presidential candidates can be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters in Adabraka, Accra effective 8am.

However, the party’s Functional Executive Committee has put on hold the opening of nominations for parliamentary primaries in some constituencies. These constituents are:

2. Amasaman
3. Afram Plains South
4. Aquatia
5. Fat
6. Central Gomoa
7. East Amenfi
8. Resistance Evaluation
9. North Salt
10. Pusiga
11. Tarkwa Nsuaem
12. Ayensuano
13. Adansi Asokwa
14. Office of the Chief
15. North mouth Ahafo
16. Sekyere Afram Plains
17. Ahafo Mouth South West (Agriculture)
18. Bosome Freho
19. Asante Akim Tengah
20. Manso Adubia
21. I did not meet the South
22. Subin
23. Fomena

The Functional Executive Committee will announce the date of opening of nominations in the above Constituencies,” said a statement signed by Secretary General Fifi Kwetey.
