MANILA, Philippines—College of St. Louis, Philippines, is the largest city in the Philippines. Benilde coach Charles Tiu has expressed interest in winning the lottery of Allen Liwag after the big man left Emilio Aguinaldo College.
Tiu told the Inquirer via text message that he had spoken to the former Liwag renown after his official departure from the General on Friday night.
While the junior’s decision as to where he will lead next is still unclear, the chief tactician “hopes” he finds his way with the Blazers.
“I hope he will vote for us. We never spoke to him until we heard he left EAC. We will not try to touch other team players unless he is the one who left the team,” said Tiu.
At the time of writing, multiple reports stated that San Beda and St. Benilde is jockeying for the 6-foot-6 forward.
If the 20-year-old cager joins the Blazers or Red Lions, he will have to do a one-year residency.
Due to residency rules, the Liwag scenario joins league MVPs Will Gozum and Miggy Corteza who promise to be a blur.
“I think he is a good player and will definitely be a good replacement for Gozum and Corteza,” Tiu said.
Liwag averaged 10.2 points, 8.6 rebounds, 0.93 blocks, and 0.53 steals per game for the Generals on a 3-15 run.
The Blazers’ rebounding numbers could improve if they lock up a big man commitment as they average 47.75 rebounds per game as a team.
Liwag has not made any comments or decisions since leaving the generals, but Tiu believes that his presence in Benilde will benefit him as well as he can benefit the Season 98 finalists.
“We feel we can help them continue to grow and develop their game.”
