MANILA, Philippines – Allen Liwag is eager to prove that his transfer to the College of Saint Benilde is worth it once he completes his one-year tenure in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament.
“My personal goal is to help the team and I will do everything to show that they hired me not to be a waste,” Liwag told Inquirer Sports.
(My personal goal is to help myself [new] team and I will do everything to prove that I will not waste the opportunity given to me by [CSB].)
Coach St. Benilde Charles Tiu, Thursday, confirmed the transfer of former forward Emilio Aguinaldo College, who will participate in the upcoming NCAA Season 99 this year before playing in 2024.
Liwag, who bid farewell to EAC last week after two seasons, believes he fits Tiu’s system and that is why he chose the team despite also receiving an offer from San Beda.
“I see that I will fit into the system and I believe that it will bring out the best of my game,” said the 21-year-old in Filipino. “Coach Charles and Boss Frank (Lao) showed their trust in me, that’s why I chose Benilde.”
The 6-foot-6 big man, who averaged 10.2 points and 8.6 rebounds for EAC in Season 98, offered his hard work and dedication to help the Blazers continue to reach higher heights after making their first Finals appearance in two decades but remaining runners-up. -up ended with a Game 3 loss to the ‘three-peat’ champions, the Letran Knights.
“[I offer] hard work and dedication to the game. I will do everything to help the team,” said Liwag.
Liwag has three more years to play since Mansa 100. While spending his residency with the St. B team. Benilde, he has no plans to stop improving his skills.
“My plan is to improve every day so that when Season 100 comes around, I’ll be ready,” he said.
The newest Blazer may have to wait before debuting but he believes that St. Benilde could win the crown this NCAA season because MVP Will Gozum played his last year.
“I believe he will win [championship] next season,” said Liwag.
