National Mosque to host prayers for Black Stars ahead of 2026 World Cup
The Ghana Football Association, in collaboration with the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, will hold a national Islamic prayer session on Friday, May 15, 2026, in support of the Black Stars ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The prayer session is scheduled for 2pm at the National Mosque and will be led by National Chief Imam Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
GFA president Kurt Okraku is expected to lead the football governing body’s delegation, which will include members of the Black Stars Management Committee, Executive Council members, backroom staff, sponsors and other football stakeholders.
Sports Minister Kofi Adams will also lead the Ministry’s delegation as Ghana continues preparations for the World Cup in North America.
The prayer gathering follows a recent visit by members of the Black Stars Management Committee to the National Chief Imam to seek blessings and spiritual guidance for the team ahead of the tournament.
The Chief Imam has also directed that Friday’s Jumu’ah prayers across the country include special prayers for the Black Stars, with regional imams expected to join the nationwide exercise.
Ghana will begin their World Cup campaign against Panama on June 17 in Toronto before facing England on June 23 in Boston and Croatia on June 27 in Philadelphia.
