Nana Addo cheated on the COVID-19 fund – Murtala


Member of Parliament for Tamale Central, Ibrahim Murtala Muhammed, has slammed President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and accused him of lying during his State of the Union address on March 8.

He further berated the President for failing to give Ghanaians the true reflection of the economy which has been in decline for months now.

Speak in The issue at read tv, Murtala Muhammed, said the President lied when he did not say that the COVID-19 funds were misused.

“What the constitution wants is to be honest and honest with the people of this country. Answer: The last thing people want from the President is to sell the kinds of falsehoods that he sold in a legendary manner when he appeared before us. [Parliament].

“What the President is doing is contrary to what the constitution requires. The President stated without shame that there was no misuse of the COVID funds. The report sent to the Parliament stated that the funds were misused. Then you have a President who looks us in the face and says there was no misuse of funds COVID. This is a lie,” said the MP for Tamale Central.

According to him, the President “knew in his heart that he did not tell us [Ghanaians] the truth. He has to be very sincere with people.”

President Akufo-Addo has denied reports that the government is blatantly misappropriating funds for the fight against COVID-19.

According to violations cited in an audit report by the Auditor General, the Ministry of Information did not compensate its employees GH¢151,500 for COVID-19 insurance while failing to deliver the $81 million government paid vaccine.

The state among others stated that it spent US$ 607,419.02 out of US$ 4,049,460.12 for the acquisition of 26 ambulances, but the vehicles were never delivered.

The Government through the Ministry of Finance responded to criticism after public objections by stating that the funds used for direct intervention of COVID-19 and public budget support are in accordance with the mandate approved by Parliament and the Public Finance Management Act.

“The economic consequences of the pandemic have been devastating. This is because the economic fallout from the pandemic has been widespread and long-lasting, so it is important to show clearly that the funds of COVID are not misused. It is important that we do not lose the trust of the public that the crisis has caused to believe that we are all abused for personal gain,” said the President.
