N/R: Nurses threaten to withdraw services due to lack of basic resources

Nurses at the Tatale Sanguli district hospital in the Northern Region, have threatened to withdraw their services if the management does not provide them with the basic resources they need to work until January 23, 2023.

Nurse in petition for management seen by Citi News it is alleged that the facility is in a very poor condition and has a negative impact on health delivery and individual performance.

According to the nurses, basic resources like gloves, syringes, medicines and consumables are not available in the facility, hence the petition.

“There is no medicine in the facility. All our providers are not ready to work with the hospital to provide medicines and consumables. The hospital theater is working without anesthesia machines. We with this petition give the management until January 23, 2023, to fix the challenge, otherwise we will withdraw services until the necessary resources are provided,” the nurse threatened in the petition.

The nurse said the facility had no doctors because the previous one had not turned anyone away before further study.

“We want the management to immediately call a staff durbar/meeting to brief them on the current state of the hospital including the current head of the hospital because Dr Laari Samuel Nibi has not given up on anyone before continuing with the school,” he said.

The condition of the facility according to the nurses, has affected the confidence of the residents of the area.

She said residents do not enter the facility and nurses can work all day with clients.

“The hospital receives referral cases from neighboring Togo, but nothing can be done. The whole community has lost confidence in the facility. And that’s why they use over-the-counter chemical shops for treatment when sick,” he said.

The anesthesia machine in the hospital according to the nurses, is not working, and the MP has not fulfilled his promise to get one for her.
