My father wanted me to be a footballer — Highlife star Kwesi Pee


Veteran Ghanaian highlife musician, Kwesi Pee has revealed how his father wanted him to become a footballer.

Known in real life as Akwasi Opoku, Kwesi Pee was born to legendary highlife artiste, Agyaaku who owns Yamoah and Sunsum Mystics Band and is known for his monster hit song ‘Serwaa Akoto’ which he produced decades ago.

Speaking in a one-on-one interview with Ekow Koomson on Ghanaweekend TV, Kwesi Pee, while answering a question about his youthful and radiant appearance, said: “It’s a blessing and that’s what I think runs in my family…I look very young because I walk a lot , and I play soccer… I can do one hour or 20 minutes … sometimes I can do two hours.”

Did he ever leave football as his profession, the ‘Ayele’ locksmith explained that, “At first, my father wanted me to be a football player, but at some point, he needed someone to replace him to sing copyright songs for the band, so I came to the heart … I stepped for that person “.

The veteran highlife musician explained, “Even though my father never liked it” there was nothing he could do but allow me to follow in his footsteps as a musician.

Kwesi Pee, known for his catchy voice and has five albums. In 2007, he won the Best Male Vocalist award at the Ghana Music Awards. The ‘Me Yia Odo’ song maker is now out with another hit song called ‘Ayele’.
