Multiple people shot at Texas mall; officials say attacker dead

Multiple people were shot at an outlet mall in the Dallas suburb of Allen, Texas, on Saturday, sending hundreds of shoppers fleeing in panic in the latest gun violence to hit the United States.

The call about shots being fired at about 3:40 p.m. local time from Allen Premium Outlets. A dispatcher with Allen police confirmed the department was investigating the shooting but could not say more.

WFAA-TV reports that police at the scene say there are multiple victims, including children. His condition was not immediately known, but WFAA reported that the Collin County Sheriff said the shooter was dead.

Rep. Keith Self, who represents the area that includes the mall, said he had confirmed with law enforcement that the shooter was dead, and that no one else was involved in the attack.

Hundreds of shoppers stood outside, across the street from the mall, Saturday afternoon. Officers spread among them asking if anyone saw what happened.

Video shared on social media showed people walking through the parking lot when gunshots could be heard.

More than 30 police cruisers with flashing lights blocked the entrance to the mall, with multiple ambulances on the scene.

Live broadcasts from news stations showed armored trucks and other law enforcement vehicles stationed outside the sprawling outdoor mall.

Ambulances from several neighboring towns responded to the scene.

The Dallas office of the US Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives also responded

Allen, a suburb about 40 kilometers north of downtown Dallas, has about 105,000 residents.
