An ultra-modern lecture hall has been inaugurated at the Faculty of Law at the University of Ghana, Legon, in honor of the late Moses Kweku Baiden.
The facility was inaugurated by three children of the Late Mr. Baiden – Mrs. Adelaide Baiden Heward-Mills (LLB Class of 1986), Moses Kwesi Baiden Junior (LLB Class of 1989) and Kwesi Atta Payin Baiden (LLB Class of 1991), all. lawyer in honor of his father.

At the inauguration ceremony, Moses Baiden Jnr, said that it had been 23 years since the project started but he was happy that it was finally completed and handed over to the Faculty.

He was very happy that he and his brothers had collaborated to upgrade the infrastructure and facilities of the Ghana Faculty of Law, praising the vision and initiative of Prof. Akua Kuenyehyia, which led to fundraising for the Faculty of Law that year. 2000.

Mr. Biden said that his late father had a passion for education, which he believed was “the basis for the transformation of society and the progress of the nation.”

“This hall, the Nana Kweku Baiden Senior Lecture Hall, was named in his memory to encourage others to emulate the good example he set in his life. What Moses Baiden achieved through funding, his wife practiced and together raised 13 children, four lawyers, “three of whom passed the Faculty.

He said that many of the late Mr. Biden’s nieces, nephews and grandchildren are also lawyers, prominent among them, Justice Avril Lovelace Johnson, Supreme Court Justice.

He said his late father showed high ideals and ambitions and was committed to promoting the socio-economic and political interests of his country.

Mr. Baiden also announced the institution of an award for deserving students in the Law course dubbed the ‘Moses Kwaku Baiden Award’.

Kwesi Atta Panyin Baiden, who read the father’s biography, described him as “Father who never went to Law School because he never had the opportunity but would call himself a pocket lawyer or a lawyer by trade.”

Mrs. Adelaide Baiden Heward-Mills, daughter of the late Moses Baiden Snr. glad to see the hall renovated, showing the gesture will advance the study of law in the country.

He remembers the “unclassical classrooms down the street” he used to attend lectures during school that he says he was disappointed by.

Prof. Raymond Atuguba, the Dean of the Faculty of Law, University of Ghana, commended the family for the move and said their contribution gave them confidence to improve facilities in the Faculty.

The late Moses Nana Ewudzie Kweku Baiden Snr. was born on February 21, 1922, and died in August 2011. He founded two important schools in the Western Region – Chapel Hill and the Nest School Complex.
