Mohammed Kudus features as Spurs crash out of Carabao Cup after Newcastle defeat

Ghanaian midfielder Mohammed Kudus featured as Tottenham Hotspur exited the Carabao Cup following a 2–0 defeat to Newcastle United at St. James’ Park on Wednesday night.

Kudus came off the bench in the second half and made an immediate impact with his sharp movement and precise passing, though Spurs could not find a way back into the game. The 25-year-old completed 12 of his 13 passes (92% accuracy), including six accurate passes in the final third. He also won one of his two ground duels but lost his only aerial contest.

Despite his efforts, Tottenham were undone by two first-half headers from Fabian Schar and Nick Woltemade, which sealed Newcastle’s place in the Carabao Cup quarter-finals.

Spurs, who have been dominant in the air this season, were ironically undone by their own weakness at set-pieces, as Schar’s opener came from a Sandro Tonali corner that caught the visitors unprepared.

Newcastle, who also hit the bar through Harvey Barnes, managed the game well and will now face Fulham in the quarter-finals. Kudus and his Spurs teammates will turn their focus back to the Premier League as they aim to bounce back from the disappointing cup exit.
