A minority in Parliament has tabled a private member’s motion for a resolution on the government’s Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
He requested that the full government debt restructuring proposal be tabled in the DPR by the Finance Minister, for discussion.
The caucus has sent a notice to the Speaker of Parliament in this regard.
Since the government announced the debt restructuring program, the minority has rejected the government’s debt exchange program, which aims to reduce the country’s debt to a more sustainable level.
Graphic Online’s correspondent in Parliament, Daniel Kenu reports that the motion tabled in the Speaker’s office on Friday is to help finalize the resolution of the Domestic Debt Exchange Program (DDEP).
The motion was sponsored by five individuals from the caucus.
They are Dr Cassiel Ato Forson, representative and MP for Adaklu, Governor Kwame Agbodza, MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga, MP for Bolgatanga Central and Isaac Adongo South Day, Rockson-Nelson Airport.

Last Thursday, the Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, assured pensioners’ bondholders that the government would not change their legal rights but would honor the coupon payments and mature principal, like all government bonds.
Apparently, not happy with the answers offered on the floor of the DPR, the minority wants clarity and some timelines to help hold the government accountable and ensure that pensioners are not left in the dark.
Indeed, the majority side of the DPR including the deputy leader of the majority, Alexander Afenyo Markin, last Thursday encouraged the minority party if they feel dissatisfied, they can use other methods including filing a motion to force the finance minister to drop the document. in front of the house if he wants.
And barely 24 hours after the presentation, the minority had already made the move.
According to House practice, the Speaker, Alban Bagbin, will refer the motion to the Business Committee to schedule the date to appear on the Order Paper for consideration by the House.
