Minister, ex-governor, other APC chieftains shun Tinubu’s rally in Enugu

Some leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Enugu State, on Wednesday, boycotted the presidential campaign held in the state.

The party leaders were at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu to welcome the party’s presidential candidate, Bola Tinubu and disappeared from there.

Notable among them are the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama, former Senate President, Ken Nnamani, former state governor, Sullivan Chime, and former Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Eugene Odo.

Briefing reporter, Mr. Chime said he was at the airport to receive the presidential candidate but could not appear at the rally because of internal issues with the APC Chairman in Enugu State, Ugochukwu Agballah.

Mr. Chime said nothing was done about the complaint after he staged a peaceful protest at the APC National Secretariat in Abuja.

The former governor said that “someone unknown to the party” emerged as party chairman and since then, the party has been in disarray.

He also lamented that the party’s gubernatorial candidate and representative are from the same senatorial district, as it has never happened in the country since the history of democracy.

The former governor said that all would work hard to ensure the victory of APC in the general election, but had no choice but to get rid of “such illegal acts”.

Former president of the Nigerian Senate, Ken Nnamani, has said that the chairman of the APC in the country and the governorship aspirant are running the party like a single administrator.

The APC in Enugu State may not have peace unless the state chairman retraces its steps, he said.

Former Speaker of the State House of Representatives, Eugene Odo, said he stayed away from public meetings because of the chairman’s attitude towards him.
